How it works

Grows from a good site along main roads that follow valleys and contours and branch into each other, then fills in ring by ring: an old town, newer streets aligned to the roads they grew from, and the outskirts — in the chosen planning tradition. Streets, collectors and arterials are spaced the way that tradition spaces them, rivers are bridged at about collector spacing, and the town stays off land below sea level and out of lakes. Size comes from real built-up densities (about 25 people per hectare in North America and Australia, 50 in Europe and Japan, 130 in developing countries) and real block sizes. Everything it makes is editable, and Ctrl Z removes it in one step.
